What does an instrument's rollover value do?
The rollover is the maximum value that the instrument can display.
Max Instrument Reading (Rollover)
The Max Instrument Reading (Rollover) setting defines the maximum value a meter can display before it resets back to zero. When a meter reaches its maximum reading, it rolls over and begins counting from zero again. Example:
Pump Run Hours:
Max Reading: 999999
Usage Between Work Orders: 500 hours
As meter readings are collected, the system calculates the difference between each consecutive reading. These differences are totaled to determine cumulative usage. Total cumulative usage is what triggers a work order when the defined threshold is reached. In the example above, the meter displays 6 digits and has a maximum reading of 999,999 hours. Once the meter reaches that maximum, it rolls over back to 0. By entering the rollover value in the system, the system continues to accumulate usage correctly across the rollover — ensuring no usage is lost and work orders are triggered at the right time. Note: If the rollover value is not configured, the system may interpret a rollover as a negative usage difference, causing incorrect total usage calculations and missed work order triggers.
